Overview:

• Consciousness and memory evolved independently of each other to fulfil different functions

• In time, however, consciousness began to co-operate with memory to improve memory formation

• In this part of The story of consciousness I'll look at how the co-operation came about

• I'll also compare the earliest co-operation of the two faculties to the more developed co-operation in the human brain
