The scientific consensus is that short-term and long-term memories are separate entities stored in different regions of the brain

In this article I challenge this consensus

I give an alternative interpretation of the results of two experiments which supposedly support the consensus 
- 
My interpretation is more likely to be correct for several reasons, including that it proposes a simpler and more efficient mechanism
