Nothing is certain except that I am conscious and that I have conscious experiences. The truth of all other phenomena cannot be determined with absolute certainty. The best my mind can do is to assess the likelihood of these phenomena being true. It is very likely that the world I live in is always governed by the law of causality. It is also very likely, then, that my brain has been evolved to recognise causal relationships. Therefore, if I want to achieve a deeper understanding of the likely truth of phenomena outside of my consciousnesses, I need to understand how the mind makes connections between causes and effects.
